Sonja Ostermayer

As a graduate engineer in viticulture & oenology, she worked for many years in PR for Germany’s largest wine region, Rheinhessen, where she was responsible for press relations and internal and external PR, most recently managing the communications campaign “We are Rheinhessen”.

With the first sustainability congress for the wine industry, Sonja Ostermayer initiated sustainability topics for the wine sector in 2012. She was involved in several research projects at Bingen University of Applied Sciences on sustainable viticulture, most recently in the development of a CO₂ calculator for winegrowing businesses.

The Sustainability Award in Viticulture, which has been presented to suppliers and service providers in the wine sector since 2012, is the result of her commitment.

Since 2023, she has been a visiting lecturer at DHBW Heilbronn and is an expert on the sustainability movement in viticulture.

She brings practical expertise from her parents’ business as well as from a wide range of professional internships and her work as a consultant in quality management.

Sonja Ostermayer works as an independent consultant on sustainability and regional development.
